I mean let’s be honest: if we could give Denzel Washington every award, we would. Now he will be receiving New Dramatists’ 2018 Distinguished Achievement Award.

The Distinguished Achievement Award is presented to individuals who have made an outstanding artistic contribution to the theatre community, according to PageSix. Before Washington, Audra McDonald, Bernadette Peters, Edward Albee, Meryl Streep and Stephen Sondheim, were some who took home the prestigious award.
We’ve watched him win Oscars with films like #TrainingDay, #Glory, and #TheHurricane. But in 2010 he won a Tony for his work in #AugustWilson’s “#Fences,” which was adapted into a film in 2016.

“Mr. Washington has earned his career status through hard work and excellence. He’s a professional actor who continues to pursue artistic and career challenges, like undertaking the plays of August Wilson, an alumnus of New Dramatists, and Eugene O’Neill, for example, and it’s his fearless risk-taking that connects him to what the playwrights working at New Dramatists and the collaborators who support their processes seek every day,” said Emily Morse, Artistic Director of New Dramatists.

On May 15, Washington will be presented with his award at the annual New Dramatists’ 69th Annual Luncheon, which takes place at the New York Marriott Marquis in the Broadway theater district.
