The Sheriff’s Deputy involved an altercation with Toronto Raptors president MasaiUjiri is considering pressing charges against the exec.
KPIX 5 reports the officer hired civil rights attorney, David Mastagni, who says, “No options are being ruled out as to how to rectify the situation.” The officer is considering several options and may file a suit against Ujiri, the Toronto Raptors, and the NBA.
The deputy says he and Ujiri got into a shoving match after he asked him to provide proof of his identity. When Ujiri became offended, the deputy says that’s when the Raptors executive allegedly punched the deputy in the face, according to the deputy’s account of the incident. Mastagni believes the physical altercation resulted in “an unprovoked significant hit to the jaw of the law enforcement officer” who hasn’t been able to go back to work after suffering from “a serious concussion, a Templar mandibular joint injury—which is a serious jaw injury.”
Complex Media reports that on Saturday, a season ticket holder for the Warriors said Ujiri never hit the officer and said the Raptors president was never asked to provide credentials. Celebrity jeweler, Ben Baller, posted and deleted a tweet saying, the authority official was lying.
On Tuesday, Baller responded to a reporter’s inquiry on Twitter, saying “if I have to defend Masai in court then damn, I guess I will because that cop is crazy and lying his ass off.”
