Derrick Rose’s attorneys may be doing more harm than good in his alleged sexual assault case. Rose, who is due to go on trial on October 4, is facing sanctions in court over his defense team’s use of language that shamed the alleged victim.
U.S. District Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald, who is presiding over the case, said in his court order, “If Defendant Rose continues to utilize language that shames and blames the victims of rape either in his motion practice or before the jury, the Court will consider sanctions.” This means Derrick Rose could be in trouble with the court if his legal team doesn’t clean up their act.
Sanctions can include a number of things, fines being one of them.
In previous court docs the woman blasted Rose for “victim blaming” by referring to her as the “sexual aggressor.”
“Defendant Rose has chosen to unnecessarily attack Plaintiff’s femininity, morals and character in order to perpetuate incorrect myths about sexual assault, labeling her as the ‘sexual aggressor.’ All the evidence, however, including Defendant Rose’s own testimony, shows that he made great efforts to get the Plaintiff to engage in sexual activity that she was not comfortable with-starting with requests for her to masturbate on video, which she refused, and, after a year-and-a-half of dating, moving to requests to have group sex, which she always refused,” her court papers read.
Looks like Rose better get his team on a leash.
