DeSean Jackson is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to a conviction after his Philadelphia home was burglarized while he was out of town on vacation.
Philadelphia police said Saturday that someone broke into the Eagles wide receiver’s home in South Philadelphia, not far from the team’s practice facility, sometime earlier in the week. Police say more than $250,000 in cash and jewelry was taken from a safe, along with a silver 9mm handgun. A source told Fox 29 that the burglars took one safe and cracked open two others. No arrests have been made, and a police spokeswoman said the investigation is ongoing.
Jackson announced the reward Sunday in a statement released through his publicist to the Philadelphia Inquirer. “DeSean is clearly upset that his home was burglarized while he was out of town on vacation,” the statement said. “He has always felt very safe in his community and it concerns him someone would victimize his place of residence.”
The statement also pushed back on the reported cash figure, saying Jackson lost personal items, jewelry and a small amount of money, and that the amount previously reported was inaccurate. According to his camp, the large sum was in items rather than cash. The statement said Jackson is confident the Philadelphia Police Department will find whoever is responsible.
Jackson also addressed the break in on Twitter Sunday morning. “The things they do 4 a lil paper !! Keep a smile on my face God Plan 4 me bigger then that !! Know that,” he wrote.
The burglary comes on the heels of one of the best seasons of Jackson’s career. He led the Eagles this season with 82 catches for 1,332 yards and nine touchdowns, and he signed a five year, $51 million contract before the 2012 season.
