As Baller Alert first reported, former Washington Redskins cornerback Fred Smoot has been accused of assault by his girlfriend, Valerie. New details about the incident have now emerged.
Smoot, 35, was arrested Sunday morning on a misdemeanor simple assault charge. He was released on a $2,500 bond, and Valerie obtained a restraining order.
Here is what Valerie told police, according to the reported details. She said Smoot pushed her against a bathroom wall when she tried to take the keys to his truck so she could drive to work. She said he scratched her knuckles and stomach during the struggle and then came through a door to go after her. She said she ran to a neighbor’s home but no one answered, so she went back to her house, called police and hid in a closet until officers arrived.
Valerie said this is what led her to share photos on Instagram of injuries she says she suffered earlier in the year.
Smoot is presumed innocent, and the charge is a misdemeanor. He had not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of this report. Baller Alert was first on this story and will keep you posted.
