Detroit Lions cornerback Cameron Sutton is facing felony domestic violence charges following an incident in Florida earlier this month.

According to The Detroit News, Sutton, 29, was initially wanted for aggravated battery-domestic violence, but the sheriff’s department later listed the charge as domestic battery by strangulation.

On Wednesday, police posted an arrest warrant online, seeking information on his whereabouts.

Police believe that Sutton might be driving a Jeep Grand Wagoneer with a license plate number of FL-AZ33QB.

Phil Martello, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s department, confirmed a 911 call reporting domestic violence involving Sutton and a woman at 4:35 a.m. on March 7. He noted the woman’s injuries.

According to police, Sutton is believed to be in Florida rather than Michigan, but authorities have been unable to locate him in the Tampa Bay area, indicating he may have fled.

The Hillsborough Sheriff’s Department tried contacting Sutton for two weeks before making the matter public. Sutton hasn’t been seen at his nearby home, indicating he may be avoiding local police by turning off or discarding his phone.

So far, police haven’t identified the alleged victim. However, in August 2022, Sutton filed a paternity suit against a 35-year-old Florida woman, though police have not confirmed if it’s the same woman involved in the March incident.

As of Thursday, the Detroit Lions announced that they released the cornerback from the team following the issuance of his arrest warrant earlier this week.
