Detroit Police Chief Todd A. Bettison has clarified that no charges have been requested against any family members in connection to the deaths of two children who died from carbon monoxide poisoning in a Detroit casino parking structure.
In a statement released on March 12, Bettison said, “The Detroit Police Department has completed its investigation into their deaths and submitted the findings to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for review. DPD has not requested charges to be filed against any family member of the children.”
The statement comes after reports suggested that criminal charges could be forthcoming. Bettison emphasized that the department’s role was to present its investigative findings, and the final decision regarding any potential charges rests solely with the Prosecutor’s Office.
The two children, identified as Darnell Currie Jr. and A’Millah Currie, tragically died on February 10 from carbon monoxide toxicity while sleeping in a van parked inside the Hollywood Casino Greektown parking structure.
