TCU defensive end Devonte Fields is a suspect in a domestic disturbance case after an incident early Sunday morning in Fort Worth, Texas. A Fort Worth police spokesman confirmed his status to reporters. No formal charges had been filed at the time of this report.
The news comes just days after Fields was named the Big 12 preseason defensive player of the year.
According to a Fort Worth police report cited by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Fields left the scene before officers arrived. The report says his former girlfriend, Haley, told officers he stood outside a bedroom window, broke the window and began yelling at her. She told police she thought he was holding a gun and that he pointed it at her. The report also says she told officers he punched her once. Officers noted swelling on her cheek and a small cut under her eye.
The report states that Haley declined to go to the hospital and said she did not want to pursue charges. None of the allegations have been proven, and Fields had not responded publicly at the time of this report.
TCU announced Tuesday that Fields has been separated from the school pending the results of an investigation into the allegations against him.
