Diddy’s legal team is speaking out after the music mogul was hit with a 50-month federal prison sentence. Attorney Marc Agnifilo didn’t hold back, criticizing Judge Arun Subramanian for what he called an overreach.
“The judge acted as a 13th juror, one we did not choose,” Agnifilo told reporters outside the courthouse. “He second guessed the jury’s verdict.”
Combs had already served one year behind bars, meaning he’ll face an additional 36 months. Agnifilo and his team had pushed for a sentence of no more than 14 months, noting that the jury found Combs not guilty of racketeering and sex trafficking. He was only convicted on prostitution charges.
“The jury’s verdict was resoundingly clear,” the attorney insisted. “There was no sex trafficking, there was no racketeering, everything was consensual, everything was adult.”
Agnifilo also claimed that the judge used “coercion” as a factor in the sentence, and confirmed they plan to appeal the decision.
Ironically, Agnifilo had previously praised the judge during trial, calling him “fair” and “thoughtful” in interviews with media outlets. That tone clearly shifted after Friday’s ruling.
Prosecutors originally asked for 11 years. While Judge Subramanian didn’t go that far, 50 months was more than Combs’ team expected.
