Diddy has learned his fate after being convicted in federal court on two counts of transporting individuals across state lines for the purpose of prostitution. The music mogul, now 55, will spend 50 months in federal prison. He faced the possibility of serious time behind bars as a result of the high-profile trial that rocked the entertainment industry.
Initially charged with racketeering, sex trafficking, and other federal crimes, Diddy was acquitted of the more severe charges. However, the jury found him guilty of transporting individuals for prostitution, a conviction that carried up to 10 years per count. He faced a possible 20-year sentence.
Prosecutors have long pushed for a stiff penalty, recommending 135 months, just over 11 years, arguing that Diddy used his wealth and influence to exploit women and that he shows no signs of remorse.
Meanwhile, Diddy’s legal team has argued that he deserves leniency due to his rehabilitation efforts and helping other inmates through his “Free Game” classes. They asked the judge to impose no more than 14 months, pointing to the time he’s already spent in custody and claiming he does not pose a threat to the community. Yung Miami and Diddy’s children were among the many people who wrote letters to the judge in support of the Bad Boy founder.
Despite efforts to overturn the conviction or secure a new trial, the court rejected those motions. Now, the producer will serve his time.
