Sean “Diddy” Combs’ mysterious prison head injury has taken another unexpected turn after federal prison officials denied claims that the music mogul was involved in a violent confrontation with a notorious Jamaican drug kingpin, leaving several conflicting accounts of what actually happened behind bars.
On Thursday, October 15, the Federal Bureau of Prisons pushed back against TMZ’s report that Diddy suffered a head injury during a fight with fellow inmate Christopher “Dudus” Coke at New Jersey’s Federal Correctional Institution Fort Dix.
A spokesperson told TMZ, “We can tell you that the story you are referring to is false and did not happen.”
However, when the outlet pressed officials about how Diddy was allegedly injured, the response offered little clarity.
“We have no additional information to provide,” the spokesperson stated.
The denial adds another layer of confusion to a story that has already produced two completely different explanations for the 56-year-old’s reported hospitalization. While TMZ maintains that Diddy was injured during a prison fight, Page Six previously reported that the Bad Boy Records founder simply hit his head on a bunk bed.
On October 14, TMZ reported that multiple sources inside Fort Dix identified Coke, a convicted Jamaican drug trafficker, as the inmate involved in an alleged altercation with Diddy on Friday, October 9.
According to the outlet, the confrontation became physical after tensions escalated over reports that Diddy had been receiving special treatment behind bars.
TMZ alleged that a recent NBC News investigation into Diddy’s prison lifestyle triggered multiple searches throughout the facility, resulting in the confiscation of contraband, including cellphones.
Sources reportedly claimed that Coke was among the inmates who lost access to a phone and blamed Diddy for bringing unwanted attention to the prison.
The outlet alleged that Diddy suffered the worse injuries during the confrontation and was transported from Fort Dix by ambulance early Saturday, October 10.
TMZ further reported that both men received two weeks in the Special Housing Unit, commonly associated with solitary confinement. Diddy was reportedly already being housed there before the alleged confrontation, which sources claimed occurred during his daily break.
However, Page Six presented a far less dramatic explanation on October 13, reporting that Diddy’s injury resulted from an accidental collision with a bunk bed.
According to the publication’s sources, the rapper struck his head on the bunk above him, requiring medical attention.
The outlet also reported that Diddy was recovering and that his injury was not life-threatening.
That explanation stands in direct contrast to TMZ’s claims of a physical confrontation involving Coke.
Both reports describe a head injury and a brief medical trip outside the prison. However, they disagree on the central question of how the injury occurred.
Page Six’s version suggests an accident inside Diddy’s living quarters, while TMZ’s sources describe an alleged attack connected to growing hostility among inmates.
The prison’s statement is not the only denial challenging TMZ’s version.
On October 15, Page Six reported that a member of Diddy’s family had also rejected claims that he fought Coke.
According to the report, the family member told media personality Loren LoRosa that Diddy and Coke are housed in different areas of the prison.
The relative also claimed Diddy is closely guarded whenever he leaves his Special Housing Unit.
Although the family reportedly did not know exactly how the injury occurred, they maintained that there was no confrontation with Coke and expressed frustration that private medical information had surfaced publicly.
Despite the competing explanations, the public has yet to receive a detailed account establishing precisely what occurred.
TMZ continues to stand behind its reporting, insisting that its sources are reliable regarding Diddy’s injury and ambulance transport, even after the prison denied the alleged fight.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Prisons has not publicly confirmed the bunk bed explanation either.
That leaves multiple unanswered questions, including whether a documented medical incident occurred, what caused the reported injury, and whether prison disciplinary records support any claim of an altercation.
The family’s assertion that the inmates were housed separately also raises questions about TMZ’s account of how the two men allegedly encountered each other.
However, being assigned to separate prison areas does not, by itself, establish whether two inmates could have crossed paths.
For now, the prison’s denial directly challenges the alleged fight but does not independently establish that the bunk bed account is accurate.
The controversy comes as Diddy’s incarceration continues to generate headlines over alleged preferential treatment and disciplinary issues.
Previous reports claimed the entertainment mogul had access to contraband cellphones, alcohol, massages, and other privileges unavailable to most inmates.
His representatives have disputed allegations of improper treatment.
TMZ also previously reported that Diddy was involved in a separate altercation with another inmate in July, although federal officials did not publicly confirm the details.
Diddy is serving a 50-month federal sentence after being convicted in 2025 on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was acquitted of more serious racketeering and sex trafficking charges.
His projected release date is currently March 2, 2028.
With TMZ standing behind its prison fight allegations, Page Six reporting a bunk bed accident, and federal officials rejecting the confrontation altogether, the circumstances surrounding Diddy’s reported injury remain unresolved.
Three competing accounts are now circulating, but none has publicly established exactly how Diddy sustained his reported head injury.
