The Diddy release date countdown just went backward. Federal Bureau of Prisons records now list March 2, 2028, as the day Sean “Diddy” Combs is set to walk out of FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey. As recently as last week, that date was January 21, 2028.
PEOPLE first reported the change Wednesday and confirmed Combs is still in solitary confinement. The BOP did not explain the move. In a statement to the outlet, the agency said, “For privacy, safety, and security reasons, we do not comment on the conditions of confinement for any incarcerated individual, including reasons for a change in release date.”
The new date comes after NBC News reported that Combs had been living a lot more comfortably behind bars than the average inmate. According to NBC, he had access to a contraband cellphone and alcohol, was seen drinking cognac, and paid other inmates to give him massages, cook him special meals and handle his chores. A source also told PEOPLE that Combs used a cellphone to scroll Instagram and look at explicit photos sent by a former girlfriend, and that he had a jailbroken tablet he used to watch movies and documentaries.
A source told PEOPLE he was moved to solitary in response to the NBC report. The BOP has not confirmed any of the allegations.
It’s not his first trip to solitary at Fort Dix. In July, TMZ reported that Combs got into a scuffle with another inmate who allegedly dissed him, and prison staff separated the two before he was placed in solitary.
The pushback undoes a run of good news for Combs. His original release date was May 8, 2028. It was pushed to June 2028 after allegations, which his attorney denied, that he drank moonshine and made an unauthorized three way phone call. From there, the date kept moving up: to April 25, 2028, after he entered a prison drug abuse program, then to February 20, then February 5, then January 21. Now it sits at March 2.
When the date moved to January, Combs spokesperson Juda Engelmayer said, “We never know how or why the BOP calculates and posts these dates.”
Combs is serving a 50 month sentence after a jury convicted him in July 2025 on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was acquitted of the more serious racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges. Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced him in October 2025, and he has been in custody since his arrest in September 2024. He is appealing his conviction and sentence.
