In a twist that could pull old rap rivalries back into a Las Vegas courtroom, Diddy may end up playing a role in the long-awaited Tupac Shakur murder trial. Duane “Keefe D” Davis, who faces life in prison after Clark County prosecutors charged him in connection with Shakur’s 1996 killing, believes Diddy could help his defense. According to the New York Post, the defense team sees the mogul as a potentially important witness.
Davis’ lawyer is reportedly confident Diddy would support the former gang boss’ defense that his multiple confessions to overseeing Shakur’s death were all lies to achieve “fame and fortune.”
“Duane has made his feelings clear – if Diddy is a witness or makes a statement denying what he told cops, then that helps him hugely. Another factor is that this case will be a jury trial..and there is a suspicion that celebrities are often seen preferentially. So if Diddy backed up this story, it would help immensely,” a family friend said.
Davis has long claimed Diddy offered one million dollars to have Shakur killed. Prosecutors, however, argue that Davis’ past statements to police about his involvement near the Las Vegas Strip amount to repeated confessions.
Asked about Combs potentially testifying, attorney Michael Pandullo said, “As things stand at the moment, Combs would be a credible witness for the defense.”
Davis has remained in custody since August 2023. His trial is currently set for August 2026, though it could be delayed into 2027.
