Former UCLA Coach Says Diddy’s Status Played Part In Justin’s Recruitment + More

Tuesday on Sirius XM’s College Sports Nation, former UCLA Head Coach Rick Neuheisel shared his sentiments on the altercation involving Diddy and a UCLA coach —  and it wasnt exactly nice. According to him, the coaches at UCLA did not want to press charges on Diddy for Monday’s events but after looking at the incident on camera, Campus police decided to detain him.

Neuheisel went on to tell the story of giving Justin Combs and Diddy a campus tour during his recruitment and according to him, Diddy had no idea who he was. “Tell me what you do, Rick?’ Neuheisel recalls Diddy asking him about 30 minutes into the tour. His answer? “Well I’m the head football coach here.”  Here’s the thing, even though Diddy was completely oblivious to who Neuheisel was, the clueless-ness definitely wasn’t mutual. According to Neuheisel, Diddy’s status actually had an impact on why Justin was recruited. “When you’re weighing the assets of what a youngster can do for your program, there’s no question it [Diddy’s status] had something to do with it for me. Justin is a great kid. His problem was his size. He’s not big enough to be a dominant player. Could he be productive? Yes. The fact his father was an influential guy played into my decision to go ahead and offer him.”

Neuheisel even went on to say that he’s “doubtful” that Justin would have ever gotten the nod from UCLA football, had it not been for his father’s status.

Now Neuheisel never actually got to coach Justin, as he was let go after the 2011 season, but how do you guys feel about his comments?
