DMX Mural Yonkers

A mural for the late, great DMX was unveiled Tuesday in his hometown of Yonkers, three months after his death.

The city paid to have a mural at the Calcagno Homes, a public housing unit on School Street, restored in X’s honor. The location is significant to DMX’s past since the rapper once lived there.

The mural was done by well-known New York City artist Floyd Simmons. Simmons famously painted the mural of late New York rapper Big L in Harlem. He also painted the front of the hood of the ’64 Impala used for Mariah Carey’s “Heartbreaker Remix” video.

X’s fiancée, Desiree Lindstrom, and members of the Ruff Ryders and Def Jam members attended the unveiling. Lindstrom spoke with reporters for the first time since his passing.

“I love it. I was amazed. It looks completely like him to me. I feel like it will uplift so many people from School Street all around the world,” Lindstrom told News12.

DMX passed away at the age of 50 on April 9 following a massive heart attack. He was larger than life and an inspiration to a generation. The platinum-selling artist made more than just an impact in the music world, leaving his mark in the film world as well. He starred in films such as Belly, Exit Wounds, and Romeo Must Die.
