The abrupt ending came near the conclusion of Toliver’s sold out Tuesday night performance. According to the Houston Chronicle, Toliver had performed “Kryptonite” and “Too Many Nights” before walking offstage around 10:40 p.m. His usual set still had three songs remaining, so fans initially treated the moment like a normal break.Instead, the house lights eventually came on. The Houston Chronicle reported that fans were first told the show was not finished before an announcer delivered a completely different message moments later: “Sorry for the inconvenience. The show is over,” followed by, “Please go to the nearest exit. Exit safely. Thank you, and have a good night.”
That sudden switch left attendees searching for an explanation. Before details about the weapon became public, fans flooded social media with questions.
More information began circulating online as concertgoers discussed a possible security incident. One fan shared a Citizen App screenshot stating that a man had been detained for bringing a gun to Toyota Center. Other fans said on Reddit that security personnel told people leaving the building that someone had a firearm.
Police information later provided more clarity. According to TMZ, a Houston Police Department representative said the 30 year old man went through a metal detector while carrying a handgun. A security guard flagged him and contacted a law enforcement officer, who took him into custody. HPD then transported the man to the Harris County Jail.
As of publication, the man had not been publicly identified in the reports reviewed, and no specific criminal charge had been announced. The available reporting also did not provide a motive or indicate that the man had any connection to Toliver. TMZ reported that the Don Toliver concert ended about 10 minutes early as a precaution for Toliver, fans and staff.
The security scare interrupted what had otherwise been a major night for the Houston native. According to the Houston Chronicle, Houston City Council Member Edward Pollard and Bun B had presented Toliver with a proclamation recognizing August 11 as Don Toliver Day roughly 20 minutes before the shutdown. Toliver reacted by saying, “Houston, we have a problem. I always wanted this,” before adding, “I don’t even know what to say right now.”
Toyota Center’s official event listing identified the Houston date as part of the second leg of Toliver’s Nitrous Octane World Tour. TMZ reported that his next scheduled performance remained set to move forward despite the Houston incident.
