Earlier this year, Donald Glover announced that he would be retiring his “Childish Gambino” musical alter ego after the release of his fourth and final project. Now, amid his recent musical success, the multi-talented artist is claiming that his record label owes him $700,000 in royalties.
Gambino is suing his former record label, Glassnote Entertainment Group, for allegedly taking excessive cuts of his streaming royalties.
According to documents obtained by The Blast, Glassnote believes that the deal they had with Glover as Childish Gambino grants them 50 percent of his streaming earnings. Per Glover, that’s just not true.
Glassnote previously requested that a judge determine if the money is rightfully theirs or not. Now, Glover has reportedly filed counter documents to support his claims that the money is rightfully his.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
On top of the claims surrounding Glover’s streaming income, the “Redbone” singer also claims that “for specified periods, Glassnote withheld or underreported royalties and other payments that should have been paid” to him.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Glover believes that other than music, the label also withheld payments from merchandise, touring, and a plethora of other fees.
