DoorDash mom reported by Bridget Locklear in a viral Facebook post

Bridget Locklear

A Facebook user named Bridget Locklear reported a DoorDash mom for bringing her young daughter along on a delivery, then posted about it and told the woman to “hire a nanny.” Facebook did not take her side.

DoorDash mom reported in Bridget Locklear's viral Facebook post

Locklear’s post included two images. The first is a nighttime still from her doorbell camera that shows the Dasher checking her phone at the front door while her little girl stands quietly right beside her. The second is the email DoorDash sent Locklear weeks after she filed her report.

“If you’re working and delivering orders, your child shouldn’t have to tag along,” Locklear wrote. “Make arrangements for childcare or hire a nanny.” She added that she will keep reporting situations like this whenever she sees them, and she thanked DoorDash.

The email she was celebrating says much less than her caption suggests. DoorDash thanked her for the report, said it would be reviewed under the company’s internal policies, and said it cannot share details about another person’s account or any action taken. The email never says the DoorDash mom broke a rule.

There may not be a rule for her to have broken. Ridester and Tasting Table both report that DoorDash allows Dashers to have passengers, children included, as long as the passengers don’t interfere with the job and aren’t left alone in the car. Locklear’s own doorbell footage shows the child standing right next to her mother at the door.

Locklear then followed up with a second post saying people should “normalize” the idea that DoorDash is not a real 9 to 5 job.

The comments under the original post were brutal. The most liked came from a commenter named Deanna, whose reply drew 2.3K likes: “I see a mom trying to make ends meet and today had to bring their child along to do that.”

Melanie asked Locklear whether she had looked up the rules for 1099 independent contractors and told her she was wasting her own time. Melanie said dashing with her own kids is “a win win for all of us,” especially during the holidays, because they get snacks, listen to music, play games and look at decorations together. She ended her comment with one word: “Weirdo.” It pulled 2.2K likes.

Andrew got 2.1K likes for writing, “tell me you’ve never had to find childcare without telling me you’ve never had to find childcare.” A user going by El Frufio added, “She thought she ate with this post,” with 1.7K likes.

Amy pointed out that DoorDash allows Dashers to bring their kids as long as the child gets out of the car with them at every stop, which is what the DoorDash mom in the photo was doing. Ken compared the report to calling the police on someone for having their kid with them at the grocery store.

Locklear did not back down. In a pinned comment, she said it is her Facebook and her camera, that she is allowed to post what is on her mind, and that she was sharing her experience “so that you know what and what not to do.” She signed off with “Goodnight.” She did not stay gone. In another reply, she complained that people were typing before the sun had even come up and asked whether they ever sleep.

Her pinned comment drew 230 laughing reactions and 45 replies.
