A Texas doorman was attacked by a patron who refused to wear a mask after being asked multiple times to wear one inside of a bar.

The altercation took place on Monday night at Houston’s Grand Prize Bar. Joshua Vaughan was stationed at the door when a customer entered with his mask half on. Employees asked him to wear his mask properly. A little while later, Vaughan saw the man leaving the bathroom with his mask fully removed. The doorman walked towards him to ask if he would put his mask on. That is when the customer grew angry and smashed his glass over the doorman’s head.

“Before he could even say ‘mask,’ the guy just took the glass and smashed it over his head,” the bar’s general manager, Lindsay Beale, told local news station KTRK. Beale said that Vaughan’s head was “gushing blood.”

The unidentified man fled the establishment in a Toyota that employees were able to capture video of.

Vaughan was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he had to receive ten stitches for his wound.

“I’ve never gotten full-on blasted like this. He was quick. He was fast. He got me good. I’ll give him that,” the recovering employee told the outlet. “I’m glad it’s just ten stitches.”

Grand Prize Bar took to it’s Instagram to post a photo of Vaughan’s bleeding head injury wrapped in medical gauze to highlight the current dangers of working in the nightlife industry during these times.

“The realities of running a business during COVID,” they captioned the post, which received over 2,600 likes as of Wednesday. Many followers left words of encouragement for Vaughan under the picture. The bar also shared a surveillance image of the assailant.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Houston police are now looking for the suspect, who they describe as being in his 20s or 30s with brown hair.

“Wear a mask,” Vaughn also said to KTRK. “If you don’t want to wear a mask, please stay home. There’s other stuff to do. You don’t have to go to a bar if wearing a mask is that big of a deal.”
