Smash or Pass? Dr. Pepper and Johnsonville Are Dropping a 23-Flavor Sausage Inspired by the Iconic Soda

What do you get when you merge a Johnsonville sausage with Dr. Pepper? Well, foodies will soon find out.

The longtime sausage maker just announced a bold new collaboration that blends its signature links with the soda brand’s iconic 23-flavor formula. Revealed on Wednesday, February 25, the limited-release Dr. Pepper-inspired sausage promises what the company calls a “nuanced, sweet and salty — or swalty — finish.”

According to Johnsonville, the idea came from a shared goal to create something fun that brings people together around the grill. The company also highlighted Dr. Pepper’s history as a trusted ingredient for marinades and barbecue recipes across the country.

“So, we got together and made something fun, unexpected, and maybe delicious,” Jamie Schmelzer, VP of Marketing at Johnsonville, said in a statement.

Dr. Pepper sees the pairing as a natural next step for its flavor legacy.

“Our signature 23-flavors blend has been used in home kitchens and backyard BBQs for years, so transforming that iconic taste into a sausage felt both unexpected and completely natural,” Derek Dabrowski, SVP of Brand Marketing at Dr. Pepper, said in a statement. “The result is a unique flavor experience that brings the depth and personality of Dr. Pepper into a whole new category.”

The sausage will roll out March 1 in both fully cooked and uncooked varieties at Walmart, Kroger, 7-Eleven, and other retailers nationwide.
