Drake’s Cannabis company has parted ways with Canadian weed cultivator Canopy Growth Corp.

This latest development comes after the partnership was announced in November 2019. Under the deal, Drake’s company, More Life Growth, and Canopy were planning on selling marijuana in the Canadian and global markets. In the initial contract, Drake was to gain a 60 percent stake in More Life, with Canopy owning 40 percent. More Life was already licensed to grow, process, and sell marijuana.

Though it was revealed through Canopy’s financial records that both companies agreed to part ways, it is unclear why. Jennifer White, director of communications at Canopy Growth, confirmed the deal’s termination to Bloomberg.

“We have indeed divested from More Life, and the facility in Scarborough which had been intended to be part of that agreement is now Canopy Growth’s R&D facility, where we will work on plant science and science development projects.”

The “Nothing Was The Same” rapper teased the cannabis line back in 2019. The brand was an ode to his 2017 mixtape and was intended to interject him into the lucrative world of legal marijuana. In a press release announcing the business, Drake stated that the brand was “centered around wellness, discovery, and overall personal growth with the hope of facilitating connections and shared experiences across the globe.”

Drake has not publicly commented on the matter.
