Young Thug’s brother Quantavious Grier, better known as rapper Unfoonk, is out of prison after a yearslong legal battle connected to the high-profile YSL RICO case.
According to Georgia Department of Corrections offender records, Grier was released from Macon State Prison on parole on August 11, 2026. His release comes more than three years after a Fulton County judge revoked his probation and ordered him to serve nine years and six months behind bars.
The Unfoonk parole release closes another chapter in a case that has followed the Atlanta rapper since he accepted a negotiated plea in December 2022. Grier pleaded guilty to one count of violating Georgia’s RICO Act and one count of theft by receiving stolen property. He received a 12-year sentence, with two years commuted to time served and the remaining 10 years to be served on probation.
The deal allowed Grier to leave custody, but it also came with strict conditions. According to 11Alive, those restrictions included a curfew and limits on whom he could contact. At the time, Grier was not permitted to communicate with Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Williams.
That freedom lasted only a few months.
According to WSB TV, Atlanta police arrested Grier on May 4, 2023, after plainclothes officers conducting surveillance near Cleveland Avenue noticed a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon backed into a gas station parking space. An officer wrote in an affidavit that several people standing near the driver’s side of the vehicle raised suspicions that a possible drug transaction was taking place.
Police later stopped the SUV over an alleged window tint violation, according to the same report. An officer claimed there was an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and said a handgun could be seen in the driver’s side door panel. When questioned about the firearm, Grier allegedly said it was “clean.”
Authorities said they recovered a 9 mm Glock from the vehicle and found what officers described as marijuana particles on the floorboard. Grier was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, participation in illegal activity by people associated with a criminal street gang, and traffic offenses.
The arrest put Grier’s recently secured freedom in jeopardy because possessing a firearm violated the terms of his probation. In June 2023, his probation was revoked, and he was ordered to serve nine years and six months in custody.
The Unfoonk parole release arrives after the larger YSL prosecution underwent major changes of its own. According to The Associated Press, Young Thug was originally arrested in May 2022 and accused alongside 27 others of conspiring to violate Georgia’s RICO Act. Prosecutors alleged that YSL operated as a criminal street gang, while the case also drew intense attention over prosecutors’ use of rap lyrics and social media posts as evidence.
Young Thug remained in custody for more than two years before his case came to an unexpected conclusion in October 2024. Williams entered guilty pleas to several gang, drug, and gun charges and no contest pleas to a racketeering conspiracy charge and another gang charge.
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Paige Reese Whitaker imposed a 40-year sentence, with five years commuted to time served, followed by 15 years of probation and a potential 20-year prison term that can be avoided if Williams successfully completes his probation.
One notable condition of Young Thug’s sentence directly involves his brother. Williams generally cannot knowingly associate with gang members or other defendants from the YSL indictment while on probation, but the judge specifically made exceptions for Unfoonk and Gunna.
That exception means the brothers are no longer facing the same court-ordered separation included in Grier’s original 2022 plea agreement. With Unfoonk now out on parole and Young Thug also living outside of custody under probation restrictions, both brothers have reached a new stage in legal cases that kept them incarcerated at different points during one of Atlanta hip hop’s most closely watched prosecutions.
