Duane “Keefe D” Davis is ready for a legal battle for his role in Tupac Shakur’s murder.

On Thursday, he pleaded not guilty to murder in Las Vegas. The case is largely based on Davis’ numerous admissions in interviews and his book, “Compton Street Legend,” which detailed Shakur’s murder and offered a first-hand account of what led to the killing and its aftermath. Days ago, it was reported that Davis could not afford an attorney. Therefore, he is now being represented by public defenders Robert Arroyo and Charles Cano, Fox 59 reports.

Davis has previously stated that a fight in a Las Vegas casino led to his nephew, Orlando Anderson, jumping in a car with Davis and two other men. They trailed the rapper and his former manager, Suge Knight, with Anderson opening fire out of the car’s window. Prosecutors believe that another motive was Shakur and gang members, including Davis, feuding over rap music. Investigators think that while Anderson pulled the trigger, Davis orchestrated the crime by giving him the gun to commit it. Shakur was shot five times, while a bullet grazed Knight.

In July, Davis’s Las Vegas home was searched for any evidence of his involvement in the 1996 murder. However, the findings have not been made public. He is the only remaining person from that car who is still alive to face charges. Davis remains in jail without bond. He has not spoken out publicly about this arrest. Davis is due back in court on November 7th.
