Philadelphia Eagles running back Dion Lewis was arrested early Saturday after police say he and his brother pulled a fire alarm at a hotel.
According to police, the brothers got locked out of a Hampton Inn, where the lobby doors are locked after midnight. After banging on the sliding glass doors with no answer, they allegedly pulled the fire alarm to get someone’s attention.
Both were charged with felony falsely reporting a fire and misdemeanor reckless endangerment. Lewis was released after his arraignment in city court. His brother, Lamar Lewis, was held without bail.
Lewis apologized in a statement. “It was never my intention to cause any public alarm or damage any property. I am sorry for any embarrassment and inconvenience that my actions have caused,” he said. He added that because the case is still in court, he couldn’t comment further.
A phone call to the front desk would have solved this. Instead, a locked door turned into a felony charge for a young player trying to make his mark in the NFL.
