Dwight Howard is responding in court to claims made by YouTube personality Masin.
Last November, Masin posted a series of tweets claiming he had been in a relationship with the NBA player and that he was threatened afterward. Howard did not publicly respond at the time. Months later, Masin filed a lawsuit accusing Howard of assault and infliction of emotional distress, and, according to the suit as reported by Bossip, claimed Howard threatened him after he refused to sign a nondisclosure agreement.
Now Howard has answered. According to Bossip, new legal filings show Howard denies Masin’s claims and says there is no truth to them. He also argues the case should not move forward because he was never officially served. Howard further says any injuries Masin suffered were caused by his own actions in posting the tweets, which Howard’s filing describes as a campaign of harassment and intimidation.
“Mr. Howard is an upstanding citizen in all respects,” the countersuit states. It adds that Howard’s public life and generosity have made him a target of what it calls a hostile smear campaign.
Howard is suing for $10 million, citing libel, slander, invasion of privacy and abusive litigation. Masin’s side has made its own claims in court, and neither set of allegations has been decided by a judge.
We will update you as the case moves along.
