NBA player Dwyane Wade is under a lot of fire from his ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches-Wade. Funches alleges that the former Miami Heat star has pressured their daughter to do an official legal name change to make money from upcoming deals.
Funches-Wade, 41, is objecting to Wade’s, 40, petition to legally change their daughter’s name due to “multiple factors” cited in documents obtained by Page Six.
She believes that Wade “is positioned to profit from the minor child’s name and gender change with various companies through contacts and marketing opportunities including but not limited to deals with Disney.”
She then adds, “I have concerns that [Wade] may be pressuring our child to move forward with the name and gender change in order to capitalize on the financial opportunities that he has received from companies.”
Funches-Wade claims a meeting in April confirmed that Wade’s main priority was money, as he suggested a lot of money has already been made from Zaya’s name and gender change.
“[Wade] told me that he intended to make our child very famous due to the name and gender issue and also informed me that there would be endorsements/contracts associated therewith.” A huge deal possibly in the works is from Disney.
Since Zaya’s name and gender change, she has had multiple endorsements, including one from Tiffany and Co.
Wade has yet to respond to the filing. Once his official petition was filed in August, he argued that he had “full authority” to request Zaya’s name change. The only reason Funches-Wade received notice was out of “courtesy.”
