An 8 year old Indiana boy has died after ingesting methamphetamine he reportedly mistook for cereal, according to court documents and local reports.
According to reports, the boy told his father he was hungry on June 21 and began eating what he thought was breakfast. Authorities say it was crystal meth, and that the amount he consumed was far beyond a lethal dose.
Court documents allege that when a woman tried to call for help, the boy’s father, Curtis, threatened her at gunpoint. The documents also allege he stopped his own parents from helping the child, who began having seizures. Speaking to ABC 6, a detective said the child likely suffered for many hours.
Curtis has been charged in his son’s death. According to reports, he also faces charges of pointing a firearm, theft and failure to register as a sex offender. These are allegations, and he has not been convicted.
Reports say Curtis is now asking for his bond to be reduced so he can spend time at home before trial. Authorities said they are working to make sure he stays in jail.
