Five-time Grammy-nominated singer El DeBarge has been arrested in California on drug and weapon charges.
On Sunday, Burbank police arrested DeBarge at a local gas station after noticing his vehicle had expired tags. However, when cops approached the singer, they spotted an expandable metal baton, an illegal weapon.
When the police started their search, they discovered pepper spray and what they believed to be a heroin-like drug in addition to DeBarge’s expired license.
The singer was charged with possessing a leaded cane or baton, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia, among several charges.
Debarge is scheduled to return to court in March after posting a $25,000 bail.
It has previously been reported that DeBarge has a history of addiction and legal difficulties. In 2018, he was charged with felony vandalism following an argument when he destroyed a man’s windshield with a wrench. Before that, he was arrested for drug possession in 2006 and 2012.
