Elon Musk has reportedly donated to seven Republican members of Congress who support former President Donald Trump’s push to impeach or restrict federal judges that have ruled against his policies.
According to The New York Times, Musk’s contributions went to Reps. Eli Crane (AZ), Lauren Boebert (CO), Andy Ogles (TN), Andrew Clyde (GA), Derrick Van Orden (WI), Brandon Gill (TX), and Sen. Chuck Grassley (IA).These lawmakers have been some of the most vocal in calling for judicial impeachment or limits on federal judges’ power.
One of Musk’s beneficiaries, Rep. Brandon Gill, has already filed articles of impeachment against U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, who ruled against a Trump administration directive to deport migrants under the 1798 Alien Enemies Act. Trump ignored the ruling, escalating tensions between the White House and the judiciary.
Meanwhile, Rep. Eli Crane has called for the removal of a judge who temporarily blocked Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency program from accessing Treasury Department data.
Musk has been vocal in his criticism of federal judges, recently calling their rulings against Trump a “judicial coup.” He even shared a post from conservative activist Charlie Kirk labeling judges as “gavel-wielding dictators” and has suggested that unelected judges should not be able to block presidential policies.
The Trump administration and its allies have ramped up attacks on federal judges, arguing they are partisan activistswho undermine the president’s authority. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has accused legal challengers of “judge shopping” to derail Trump’s agenda.
Trump himself recently blasted Judge Boasberg on Truth Social, calling him a “Radical Left Lunatic” who is overstepping his power. However, Boasberg was originally appointed by George W. Bush before being elevated under Barack Obama, a detail that undercuts claims of political bias.
In response to mounting pressure, Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts made a rare public statement, emphasizing that impeachment is “not an appropriate response” to disagreeing with a judicial decision.
With Musk now financially backing some of Trump’s most aggressive congressional allies, the battle over judicial power is heating up, and the stakes couldn’t be higher.
