Despite the recent mishaps with Tesla, Elon Musk is confident that the futuristic Cybertruck will be able to roll on water.

On Thursday, Musk made the bold remarks on Twitter, promising that the truck could “serve briefly as a boat” in small, calm bodies of water. In a follow-up tweet, he stated that the vehicle would need “to get from Starbase to South Padre Island, which requires crossing the channel.”

In 2020, Musk made similar claims about the electric truck. However, there are several things that the Tesla founder will need to consider. While trucks with a fully enclosed underbody can float for a short period, getting them to stay afloat and drive over water will prove more difficult. Musk has yet to detail how he plans to kick off such an ambitious element.

Trying to get the Cybertruck off the ground has proven to be a task on its own. First announced in 2019, many promises surrounding the truck have been broken already. For starters, the Cybertruck has experienced several delays. Initially priced at $39,900, Tesla has confirmed that the automobile will now cost more. The company also vowed to equip the trucks with shatter-proof windows, but when they easily shattered during the debut, it became clear that more work was needed.

Nevertheless, Musk still appears confident in the Cybertruck’s capabilities. With no release date in sight, Tesla fans will simply have to wait and see.
