Tensions from the January 6 attack flared up once again after Enrique Tarrio, the former leader of the Proud Boys, confronted ex-Capitol police officer Michael Fanone. But if Tarrio was expecting a friendly chat, he quickly learned otherwise.

According to witnesses, Tarrio, who was recently pardoned by Trump after serving time for his role in planning the attack—approached Fanone in what appeared to be an attempt to challenge him. The former officer, who suffered a brutal assault during the riot, didn’t hesitate to fire back.

“You are a f***ing traitor to this country,” Fanone told Tarrio, making it clear he had nothing to say to the man whose extremist group contributed to the chaos of January 6.

Tarrio, who had been sentenced to 22 years behind bars before his pardon, wasn’t physically present at the Capitol during the attack but was found guilty of helping coordinate the riot. His early release sparked outrage among many, especially those who defended the Capitol that day.

Fanone, now a vocal critic of Trump and those who downplay January 6, has been outspoken about the trauma he endured. He was dragged into a mob, beaten, and tased until he suffered a heart attack. Since leaving law enforcement, he has pushed for accountability for those involved in the insurrection.
