Remy Ma Said Papoose’s Name At The BBQ, Now Claressa Shields Says She Is Ready To Air It All Out

Claressa Shields posted that she is not done and that people better steer clear, writing that she is ready to air it all out. She followed it with an ellipsis, which in her hands has become its own kind of warning label. She did not name anybody. She has not named anybody this entire run, and that is part of what has the timeline in a chokehold. To follow this you have to go back about a week. Claressa stopped by “The Streetz Morning Takeover” in Atlanta to promote her upcoming fight, and host Mz. Shyneka asked her how much longer she planned to be in a relationship with somebody’s husband. The somebody in question is Papoose, who is legally still married to Remy Ma. Claressa shut the framing down on the spot, saying that is not somebody’s husband because Papoose filed for divorce, and that he filed because he is serious about her. She also flipped the standard back around, saying if the room wants to call him somebody’s husband then Remy should be called his wife and held to the same accounting for how she is living her own life.

The clip traveled, as those clips do. Claressa then went at Shyneka directly on a livestream, telling her she had all this lip and was talking all this [expletive] because she had never gotten that much attention in her life. Eva Marcille later stepped in publicly to defend Shyneka, which added a whole second lane to the conversation.

Then Sunday, August 2, Remy Ma took the stage at Angie Martinez’s Summer BBQ at Paradise Coney Island in Brooklyn. She ran through her catalog, including “W.Y.F.L.,” the track she dropped in April that shuts down years of talk that Papoose ghostwrote for her. The recorded version goes at people claiming they wrote hits they never wrote, with a line about somebody always acting like they helped. On stage, in front of a Brooklyn crowd, she reworked it and put Papoose’s name in the record. The crowd caught it instantly.

Claressa answered Monday morning without answering. She posted “Ha another clout chaser,” then came back with a photo of herself laughing in a black floor length robe, then a longer post about training camp, saying her mind is open wide, her relationship with God is closer, and that He exposes attacks and wickedness before they reach her and gives her the calm to handle whatever it is. She said she is enjoying the good life with peace and happiness. Unfazed was the word she kept coming back to.

What she means by airing it out is the open question, and it is worth being honest that nobody knows yet. She has not tied any of these posts to a specific person or moment. Fans are filling in Remy, filling in Shyneka, filling in the whole cast, and Claressa is letting them do it while saying nothing that could be quoted back at her.

Papoose, for his part, still has not said anything publicly about any of it.

None of this is happening in a quiet week either. Claressa fights Kaye Scott for the unified WBC and WBA middleweight titles on Saturday, August 15, at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, streaming on DAZN. It is her first fight in Atlanta and the first women’s bout to headline a card at that arena, and she is dropping back down from heavyweight to 160 to chase undisputed status in another division. Between the tweets, the video shoot, and a title fight in a city she has been working all summer, Claressa Shields has the internet checking her page daily during the exact stretch when tickets are moving. Whether that is strategy or just a woman who says what she feels, the calendar is doing a lot of work.
