Wendy Williams is continuing to speak out about her life under guardianship—and this week, she got a clear sign that her fans are still standing with her.
On April 1, supporters gathered outside an assisted living facility in New York City, where the former talk show host has been staying. A second rally was held the same day in Los Angeles. Both events were part of the growing #FreeWendy movement, which began in 2022 after Williams was placed under a court-appointed guardianship.

Speaking with PEOPLE over the phone during the NYC protest, Williams said she was touched by the public show of support. “They have posters and T-shirts,” she said, noting that she could see the crowd from her window. “I’m standing here and looking out the window because I like things like that.”
At 60, the media personality is still asking why she remains under legal guardianship. “Why am I still a ward?” she said. “It’s been too long.”
Williams, who was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in 2023, described her current living environment as limiting. “Everything I do, I do right here in this bedroom,” she said. “It gets lonely, but I keep going.”
Her health and living arrangements have been the focus of public concern in recent months. In March, she was temporarily removed from the facility following a wellness check initiated by her health advocate, Ginalisa Monterrosa. After being taken to the hospital for evaluation, Williams later shared that she “passed with flying colors.”
Williams has previously stated she feels capable of making her own decisions and wants her guardianship re-evaluated. Her team says she hopes to go before a jury to determine whether it should be lifted.
Meanwhile, her guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, recently claimed that Williams declined to attend a medical appointment in March. Williams, however, said she was unaware of that claim and responded by saying she’s open to care “on her own terms.”
Despite the circumstances, Williams remains hopeful and says she’s looking forward to the future. “When I get out of the situation, I’m staying in New York where I’m comfortable,” she said. “I can’t wait to fall in love again.”
She also reminded fans to be mindful of where they get their information. “Unless you hear from me, my niece Alex [Finnie], or my friend Suzanne [Bass], don’t assume it’s true,” she said.
