Fat Joe will be getting a series based on his illustrious life, and Kenya Barris will help bring it to television screens.
Starz is developing “The Book of Jose,” a scripted series chronicling the rise of the Grammy-nominated hip-hop star. The show will trace his start in the Bronx streets to international superstardom over his 30-year career.
Originally announced at Showtime in 2022, the production stalled before finding a new home at Starz, where the rapper currently hosts “Fat Joe Talks.”
The pilot will be penned by Barris, most widely known for “Black-ish.” Dominic Colón will co-write alongside him. The Bronx-born writer’s pilot “Papi” was a top finalist on The Blacklist’s Latinx TV List. Colón, a 2024 WGAE Showrunner Training Academy graduate, recently worked on Netflix’s upcoming “The Corps.” As an actor, he’s appeared in over 60 TV shows and films, with a recurring role upcoming in the HBO series “Task.”
Executive producers include Joe, Barris, Colón, Jessy Terrero, who will also direct the show, and E. Brian Dobbins. The series is produced through Barris’ Khalabo Ink Society and Artists First.
Currently, there is no release date for “The Book of Jose.” Casting is also being kept under wraps for now.
