A father and stepmother in Claiborne County, Mississippi have been arrested and charged with capital murder in the death of a 14 month old girl, according to the county sheriff’s office.
Deputies arrested Morris and TKia on Monday. They are charged in the death of Jurayah, who died on October 22, 2017, while she was reportedly in their care. Charges are allegations, and neither has been convicted. No response from the couple or their attorneys has been published.
Reports cited an initial pathological exam that listed the cause of death as blunt head trauma and the manner of death as homicide. Local outlet WDAM reports each person was given a $1 million bond.
As for the long wait between the child’s death and the arrests, the sheriff and District Attorney Alexander Martin said they were waiting on the official autopsy report from the State Crime Lab before moving forward. More details are expected as the case develops.
