A woman who goes by Skrawberry on social media says a recent date with Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes ended with her paying her own bill at a steakhouse, according to BroBible, which cited her Instagram posts.

In her telling, she met Spikes on Twitter, they chatted for a while and she eventually agreed to meet him. She says he ordered oysters and drinks, she ordered a filet with truffle mac and cheese, and the total came to $279. She claims that when the check arrived he asked for her card, said he had heard something about her, and then stepped away. She says she asked the bartender to split the check, paid for her own meal and left. She also made several jokes at his expense about his appearance on the night.

We have not independently confirmed her account, and we did not see a response from Spikes in the reports.

The story set off a familiar debate online about who should pay on a date. Our take is simple. Whoever picks the restaurant should be ready for the bill, and if plans change, the polite move is to say so before the check shows up. Both sides of this one deserve a hearing, so if Spikes responds we will update.
