Five Children Charged With Murder Of Local Nashville Musician

Nashville police have arrested five juveniles they claim shot and killed a 24-year-old country music singer named Kyle Yorlets. Under Tennessee law, three of the five children are allowed to be identified because they are charged with homicide and are over the age of 13.

Roniyah McKnight, 14; Diamond Lewis, 15, and Decorrius Wright, 16, as well as a 12-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy are all charged in connection with Yorlets death. According to police, the victim was killed outside of his home after he was robbed of his wallet and shot for refusing to give them his keys.

Yorlets was able to make it back inside his home after the shooting, where one of his roommates found him around 3 p.m. However, he was pronounced dead at a hospital soon after.

All five children were found together at a nearby Walmart in a stolen Hyundai Santa Fe with two loaded pistols, that were also reported stolen.

Yorlets was a member of Nashville band Caverton, which released the following statement:

“On February 7, 2019, we lost our brother, best friend, and bandmate Kyle Yorlets. We are in a state of shock and are having to grasp the reality that is now in front of us. We are heartbroken. Our condolences for his family and loved ones and all the lives that he touched. We will never forget Kyle, and though he is gone too soon, his legacy is here to stay.”
