Flavor Flav is calling out fellow founding Public Enemy member ,Chuck D, over royalty checks that Flav says he hasn’t received in years.
The rapper, whose real name is William Drayton, filed a new suit on Wednesday, accusing Chuck D and two business managers of holding out on several royalty checks and merchandise revenue.
According to Variety, Drayton argued that he and his team have been trying to get a full count for all of the money the group has received in the last few years, but have been ignored. In the suit, Drayton accuses Chuck and the managers of trying “to minimize his role in the Public Enemy business” over the years, as he was mostly known as the hype-man to Chuck D, the artist. As a result, managers would exploit “his fame and persona to market the brand.”
Drayton says the team created Public Enemy action figures and didn’t pay him for it. So, he wants his money.
Apparently, the two had a longstanding agreement to share all the profits, from royalties to merchandising, but Drayton says he hasn’t see a penny. To makes matters worse, he says Chuck is still getting paid.
In addition, Drayton says he had nothing to do with most recent Public Enemy album, where his name, voice and likeness was used without his permission. He says he asked for $75,000 for the album, but only received $7,500.
“He had never heard of the album, nor heard any of the final mixes,” the suit states.
