Kissimmee Police Get Suspension

A Kissimmee, Florida police officer who pushed a suspect off a roof in March has received an eight hour suspension, which he served by giving up one vacation day, according to the Kissimmee Police Department.

The department released body camera footage on Wednesday showing 18 year old Yadiel on the roof of his family home. Police were called by his ex girlfriend, who accused him of taking her car during an argument, according to a police report.

When officers arrived, Yadiel climbed out a window onto the roof, and Officer Plenio Massiah followed. In the video, Sgt. Anthony Amada can be heard shouting from below, “Push him off,” even though Yadiel had offered to climb back inside through an open window.

Massiah then pushed Yadiel off the roof, a drop of about nine feet. A loud thud is heard on the video before Amada rushes over and uses a Taser on him. Reports say Yadiel was not seriously injured.

The Kissimmee police chief said both officers wrongly put Yadiel in danger. After an internal investigation, the department docked Massiah eight hours of vacation time for failing to follow the department’s general order. Amada resigned in June, and officials said he would have been fired had he stayed.
