Florida Kava Bar Owner Uses “N-Word” To Describe Haitians In Leaked Email

South-Florida-based kava bar Kavasutra is under fire after one of its owners used the “N-word” in a racist email rant.

Kavasutra owner Dylan Harrison sent the email to a real estate broker on March 4th. He used the racial slur while expressing his frustration over the price of retail space at the Hypoluxo Center strip mall located in Lake Worth.

“As I’m sure you already know, this is a ghetto Haitian n****r plaza. It has all the hallmarks of poverty,” Harrison boldly stated. He went on to add that a Kavasutra bar would “bring enormous traffic of English speaking people” to the location and demanded that he receive a decreased rental charge for the space.

Kavasutra has been known for racial controversy. On the anniversary of George Floyd’s murder, the bar shared a photo of Floyd with crack pipes photoshopped in his nose, mouth, and ears. The caption read, “I can’t breathe.” That post was eventually removed and replaced with another photo of Floyd with the caption reading, “CONGRATULATIONS. ONE YEAR DRUG FREE.”

A current employee of Kavasutra, who spoke with the Miami New Times under the condition of anonymity, says that this racist behavior is not uncommon for company leadership. She revealed that the owners often use controversial topics to gain views online.

“The owner likes to jump on every controversial topic everywhere. They never do anything that surprises me anymore. Every time I think they did something a step too far, they do something worse,” the employee stated.

Kavasutra vice president Michael Klein, who was also CC’d on the email, says the racial slurs didn’t “sound like anything we’d say” before declining to comment further.
