Police in Treasure Island, Florida say a 47 year old man named Jason was arrested after he spat on a boy who would not take off his face mask at a restaurant, according to FOX 13 Tampa Bay.
Police say Jason told the boy to remove his mask and asked to shake his hand. When the boy refused, police say he grabbed the boy’s arm, spat on him and told him, “You now have coronavirus.” Police also say he later approached a restaurant worker in a threatening manner before staff held him until officers arrived.
Jason told police he does not know whether he has the virus and has never been tested for it. He is charged with simple battery and disorderly conduct. The charges are allegations, and there was no public comment from him beyond what he told officers.
Masks became a flashpoint in public spaces this year, but police say nothing about the situation gave anyone a reason to put hands or spit on a child.
