A Florida mother is in the middle of a strange arrest story. According to The Smoking Gun, a woman named Casey was arrested and charged with two counts of child abuse after police say they found suspected cocaine on her toddler son’s Dr. Seuss book.
The police report says officers found a small amount of suspected cocaine and a snorting straw on top of The Cat in the Hat. Officers also reported finding marijuana and a bag of suspected MDMA pills on her bedroom nightstand.
Officers wrote that the boy had keys to his mother’s bedroom, which they said left the drugs within his reach. The report also accuses her of leaving significant bruises on the child through physical punishment that exceeded the accepted level of force.
She was released on a $4,000 bond on Thursday night. The charges are allegations only, she has not been convicted, and the report did not include a public response from her.
