Body camera video from Sanford, Florida, is raising questions about how police handled calls from Latina, a woman who was killed in her home hours later along with her young son.
According to the released footage, officers were called to a convenience store around 3:20 a.m. Monday over an argument between Latina and her boyfriend, Allen, about her keys. Officers reportedly left after determining the dispute had not turned physical. About 20 minutes later, police were called to a residence, and in the video an officer can be heard saying Latina was making false accusations. In the footage, an officer is also heard telling someone to stop calling 911.
Roughly three hours later, around 6:30 a.m., police say a man entered Latina’s home with a rifle and opened fire. Latina and her 8 year old son were killed. Her other young son, her father and two people outside were also shot. Police identified Allen as the suspect.
Sanford police say the officer who said to stop calling 911 was not speaking to Latina and was instead talking about a third party who had called 911. The department’s chief addressed what he called misinformation about the video after it spread online.
Many viewers have questioned the response, while police maintain the comment was about someone else. The case is still developing.
