A Florida woman is facing charges after investigators said she made up an accusation against a sheriff’s deputy.
According to the Palm Beach Post, Marley, 23, was charged with making a false report of sexual battery, making a false report of a crime and perjury. The charges stem from her claim that a Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputy sexually assaulted her while taking her from the Greenacres Police Department to jail after a shoplifting arrest on Jan. 9.
The police report says she told investigators the deputy stopped the car along the way and assaulted her, and that an officer also touched her inappropriately during a pat down.
Investigators said the account did not hold up. According to the report, a female officer conducted the pat down and denied assaulting her, a female officer also drove her to jail, and dash cam footage showed the deputy she accused never stopped the car.
On June 19, Marley was convicted of stealing about $68 worth of items from Target, along with resisting arrest with violence, battery on an officer and trespassing. She was sentenced to two years of probation. She faces up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine on the new charges and was released on a $3,000 bond. A charge is not a conviction, and she had not been convicted on the false report charges at the time of reporting.
