A former unpaid intern at Bad Boy Entertainment has filed a lawsuit claiming she should have been paid for her work, according to TMZ and other outlets.
The plaintiff, Rashida, interned at the label’s Manhattan office from January 2012 to May 2012. The Root, citing the New York Daily News, reported that the suit was filed as a class action in federal court in Manhattan against Bad Boy Entertainment and its parent company, Universal Music Group. It alleges violations of minimum wage laws.
Rashida claims her duties included answering phones, picking up lunch and coffee for paid employees, making deliveries, wrapping presents and decorating the office for the holidays. She says she received no training and did work that paid employees would otherwise have done. She told the outlet she was not suing out of animosity.
No response from Bad Boy or Diddy had been reported at the time of this post. These are allegations in a lawsuit and have not been proven in court.
The case is part of a growing wave of legal challenges over unpaid internships, which TMZ noted have come under closer scrutiny lately.
