Police say a former Baltimore police officer was arrested on child sex abuse charges while being treated in the hospital on Monday. The former officer was shot by his wife after he was accused of sexually abusing children at her daycare center.
On Thursday, Shanteari Weems, 50, shot her husband James S. Weems Jr., 57, at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Washington, D.C.
According to the press release, when detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the scene following a report of a shooting, they discovered James Weems in a hotel room with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
According to the Baltimore County Police Department, the warrant came after “allegations surfaced that Weems sexually abused at least three children while working at a daycare facility in Owings Mills.”
Records show that Shanteari Weems owns the Lil Kidz Kastle Daycare Center in Owings Mills, a Baltimore suburb.
James Weems is now facing various charges after Baltimore County detectives started looking into him this month after learning of the abuse.
