Matthew White, 53, a former University of Pennsylvania basketball player, died at his home in Media, Pennsylvania, in February 2013, and his wife has been charged with murder, according to police and the Associated Press.
White was the starting center on Penn’s 1979 Final Four team and was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers. Police say he was stabbed in his bed. His wife, Maria, is charged with first degree murder and is being held in the Delaware County jail.
Police say that after the incident Maria went to a friend’s home and told her she had caught her husband viewing child pornography. That account comes from police describing what she said. It has not been confirmed, and no charges have been reported against White. It was not clear whether Maria had an attorney.
Our thoughts are with Matthew White’s family and friends.
