A former female correctional officer was sentenced Tuesday to two years probation and seven months behind bars for having sex with an inmate at California’s Fresno County jail.
Tina Gonzalez was arrested in May 2020 after a “tip” launched an investigation that determined that she had a relationship with a male inmate.
Authorities were tipped off that the inmate who had a cell phone was also having sex with a guard.
Gonzalez ended up charged with sexual activity by a detention facility employee with a consenting confined adult, possession of drugs or an alcoholic beverage within a jail facility, and possession of a cellular device with intent to deliver to an inmate. The 26-year-old pleaded no contest in April.
She was originally facing three years and eight months in prison; however, she caught a break when prosecutors suggested a 15-month sentence.
