Former first lady Michelle Obama is sharing how overcome with emotions she was after Donald Trump’s 2017 inauguration.

Mrs. Obama detailed the experience during her The Light Podcast, which debuted Tuesday on Audible. Leaving the White House after eight years of intense scrutiny and excellent strides had come crashing down on the author as the family took their final trip on the presidential plane. There was also the realization that Trump was taking office following a controversial election.

“When those doors shut, I cried for 30 minutes straight, uncontrollable sobbing, because that’s how much we were holding it together for eight years,” Obama shared.

This podcast audio is straight from Obama’s book tour for her third bestseller, The Light We Carry. The podcast is a plus for fans who could not attend her book tour because they can now hear conversations she had during her appearances with moderators such as Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry.

Obama said the now-viral photos of her appearing to have an attitude during the inauguration were a true representation of what she felt at that moment. She said sitting on the stage across from Trump, which was “the opposite of what the Obama family represented,” was a hard pill to swallow for the former first lady.

All eight of “Michelle Obama: The Light Podcast” will be available exclusively on Audible for a limited time. After two weeks, fans can stream them on any podcast app.
