A former Jackson Public Schools teacher was sentenced Thursday to 15 years in prison, with five years suspended, on two counts of sexual battery. She will also be required to register as a sex offender.
The teacher, Amber, 42, was accused in 2017 of having a relationship with a 17 year old Provine High School student, WLBT reports. School officials said she was let go after she was indicted.
According to reports, an investigation began after the student’s father found videos on his son’s phone. Amber, who is married, reportedly told the court that the student tried to control her.
She was found guilty last month. An attorney for the student’s family said in a statement that the conviction reaffirms that those who harm children deserve severe punishment.
